“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?” (Psalm 139:7) The psalmist knew something that many today have forgotten - the Lord of all creation, Jehovah God, is omnipresent. This does not mean that God is in everything, where some worship the ground or the sun as Pantheists believe. Nor does it mean that God created the universe and simply walked away from it as Deism would suggest.
The psalmist understands, as we should, that God is not in everything, but that He created everything. More importantly, God not only created everything, He is also in sovereign control of everything. There is not a single event, action, or thought that escapes His gaze. There are no surprises to God. Yet, it is the faithful who are most often surprised when God makes His presence known.
Our heavenly Father made us a promise, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Heb. 13:5) He didn’t just create us, and leave us to fend for ourselves. Our Creator wants us to live the Christian life with the bold confidence of knowing that He is ever present. This is at the core of the Apostle Paul’s statement, “The righteous shall live by faith." (Rom. 1:17)
Faith means you can marvel at the earth in all its God-given splendor and know God’s almighty hand created it. Likewise, faith also means that no matter how desperate your situation, the God who created you is firmly in control of your circumstances. His Spirit lives inside the believer; guiding and directing their path through every hardship and loving with a love that is unmatched by man.
